CDC releases information on estimates of new HIV infections in the U.S. 2006-2009

"In August 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new estimates of the annual number of new HIV infections (HIV incidence) in the United States. The estimates, for 2006 through 2009, are the first multi-year estimates using CDC’s national HIV incidence surveillance methodology, which is based on direct measurement of new HIV infections using a laboratory test (the BED HIV-1 Capture Enzyme Immunoassay) that can classify new diagnoses as either recent or long-standing HIV infections....

Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund 2011 Grant and Program Recipients

The Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) has awarded more than $645,000.00 for programs and grants to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, offer needed education, prevention and testing opportunities, and provide care and assistance to those with HIV or AIDS.
 
Proceeds from Red Tie Night, the annual fundraiser for OACF, provides for most of the monies used in these efforts. Red Tie Night has maintained its place as the largest single evening fundraiser in the state for many years.

Early HIV Treatment Can Reduce Transmission Risk By 96%, Study Results Show

"One in Five Gay, Bisexual Men in US Cities Have HIV"

A CDC study of men who have sex with men (MSM) in 21 major cities found nearly one in five are infected with HIV, and 44 percent did not know it.

CDC researchers tested 8,153 MSM participating in the 2008 National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System. Overall, 19 percent were HIV-positive.

The highest infection rate, 28 percent, was found among black MSM. Eighteen percent of Hispanic MSM were infected, as were 16 percent of white MSM.

Lower levels of income and education were associated with higher rates of HIV infection. Among other findings:

Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) is delighted to announce our 2010 Grant awards totaling over $640,000 to 18 local agencies and programs that offer services to Oklahomans living with HIV/AIDS. This includes OACF's own three programs for testing, prevention, and emergency assistance. Our famous fundraising event, Red Tie Night 2010 provided the majority of the Grants' funding. OACF acknowledges our loyal donors who are the reason we can award these Grants and are the backbone of our work. We also thank our devoted volunteers and Red Tie Committee members.
